FAQ

What material is used for BMC electrical insulators?

These insulators are made from electrical grade BMC (Bulk Molding Compound), a thermoset composite chosen for its dielectric strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to heat and chemicals.

What is the CTI of BMC insulator material?

A high CTI (Comparative Tracking Index) formulation is available, which improves resistance to electrical tracking and makes the material suitable for high-voltage and creepage-sensitive applications.

Can BMC insulators achieve UL 94 V-0?

Yes. The BMC formulation used meets the UL 94 V-0 flammability rating, the highest level of flame-retardant performance in the UL 94 vertical burn test.

Can SUSDURA manufacture custom BMC insulators?

Yes. Size, color, thread type, and material can all be customized to match your specific application, and non-standard dimensions can be produced on request.

Can metal inserts be molded directly into BMC?

Yes. Brass, steel, or stainless steel inserts can be molded directly into the part during production, providing a secure, permanent metal-to-plastic bond for mounting or electrical connection.

What is the difference between BMC and ceramic insulators?

BMC is lighter, more impact-resistant, and more cost-effective to mold into complex shapes than ceramic. Ceramic insulators generally offer higher performance at extreme temperatures, but BMC is sufficient and more practical for most switchgear and busbar applications.

Can BMC insulators be used in humid environments?

Yes. Electrical grade BMC has low water absorption and good resistance to moisture, making it suitable for humid or outdoor electrical enclosures.

What information is required for a quotation?
